April's Nutshell...posted by the Mrs.

Since growing our garden, we discovered how many snails reside in our area.

Every morning we were finding 7 - 10 snails and slugs who had been feasting on our garden and were then heading for shelter to avoid the blaze of the sun.

Eventually we got a hold of some snail bait which has saved our *new* crop of lettuce.

This is the damage of snails and aphids.

We noticed and extreme amount of lady bugs in our yard and read that they are great for eating aphids.
Duncan and I went on a ladybug catching hunt and found 14 ladybugs in a matter of minutes.
Can you spot the 3 ladybugs in this picture?!

An evening ritual at the Rich household...Daddy chasing Duncan on the skateboard.

Duncan getting to play with his "friends" aka cousins.
This is a fun little hideout under the stairs perfect for a club of hooligans to play and be silly.

Lance, Bobby, and Ben
at the burial site for Jim.

The day was a great tribute to Jim of his life and influence.

Pat (doing a terrific job) performing on the saw at the burial site.

Charlie enjoying the full-length mirrors for some easy entertainment.

I couldn't resist posting this picture.
Duncan was waiting for his jams and decided that jumping over Bobby's back roller
over and over was a good use of his time.
I guess I just love how well this picture captures the life of this 3 year old boy...underwear and all.

Duncan received a neat dinosaur apron made by his cousins across the country in Maryland.
He loves to wear it while we make tasty morsels in the kitchen.

A happy fireman with his fireman gang.

The first use of our garden produce...green onions!
We used these to make enchiladas.

Going for a family walk around the neighborhood.

Charlie's cute little baby feet.

Flying solo with a baby.
Flying always makes me a little nervous because there's nowhere to go with a fussy baby!
Thankfully, Delta had an extra seat on the plane (both ways!) and arranged for Charlie to be able to have his car seat during the ride.
Charlie slept well because of this arrangement.
That extra seat really saved the day and my nerves.

The sunset over The Great Salt Lake from a mile up.
This was just after I woke up from my snooze on the plane.
I remember thinking 'it's at this point during our drive that we are exhausted from driving and just want to be at our destination' - (just after the Salt Flats).

Driving to Utah = 10 to 12 hours on the road.
Flying to Utah = 1 hour and 20 minutes in the air.

Traveling 650 miles and arriving at the set destination well before the next meal time -> Priceless.

Here is my dad and my Grandma along with all my dad's siblings at the burial site for my Grandpa.
We all sang "Teach me about the Temple" by Lynn Perry Christofferson here at the site.
It was quite appropriate for my Grandpa.

These are my cousins that I grew up with.  We loved playing together every chance we got.
We are even missing one cousin...Stephen.
Love my cuz's.

Natalie, Amy, DeAnna, me, and Jeff.

That's the nutshell of April...
The End.

Everett Duncan - my Grandpa - posted by the Mrs.

On April 26th, my sweet Grandpa Duncan passed away.
I will always remember his constant cheerfulness, smile, spirit, his love and talent for woodworking and gardening, and the way our conversations always connected to the Gospel.

My Grandpa was the one who gave me my Patriarchal Blessing and
performed the Temple ceremony for Bobby and me, sealing us for time and all eternity.

His life was one that was undoubtedly centered around Jesus Christ.
It was easy to feel and know of his testimony because it was who he was.

He has left an amazing legacy for his
9 children, 61 grandchildren, 164 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren
to look to and strive for.

He and my Grandma have set a wonderful example for me
with their loving and dear marriage.

I remember in high school they came to watch me perform for choir on Temple Square.
When the concert was over and we hugged and parted ways, I remember looking back for just a second, and seeing my sweet Grandma and Grandpa (then in their 80's)
holding hands as they walked down the street.

I have wanted a marriage like theirs ever since.

I have fond memories of swinging on the back porch swing, playing croquet, learning to paint landscapes, sawdust piles with hidden pennies and candy at family reunions, playing card games, and shadowing my Grandpa as he went about his tasks in the wood shop and the garden.

(Duncan 'telling' Great-Grandpa how old he is)

I am going to miss this special man I call Grandpa.
I'm so grateful for the knowledge of the Gospel.
As I've experienced the passing of two special people in my life so close together, it has made me stop to really ponder on the reality of the Plan of Salvation and the purpose of this life on earth.
How much I want to see these loved ones again.
I want to try that much harder to stay close to the Spirit and keep my focus on what matters most in this life.

Love you Grandpa
Thanks for setting such a wonderful example for me.
